Safety and The Tunnel: Why are people concerned? So now we know what this revolutionary tunnel is all about, what’s next? Well this week we are going to talk about safety and why some people may be concerned about this new mode of transport. This mode of transport is going to be the future of solving traffic congestion as we previously stated, and let's be real why wouldn’t you want to get somewhere in five minutes rather than forty-five? Think of what you could do with all that time, this is why it’s so important to get these tunnels built for so many people. But obviously to the drastic people out there travelling at 155 mph in a tunnel is going to bring major concerns for safety (Ramirez 2020). So you might be wondering what these safety concerns are and what is being done to prevent anything going wrong. Doesn’t that photo scream SAFETY!? Seeing as the first model is in LA, Earthquakes is obviously somewhat of a concern. I suppose this is a valid concern seeing as there has been 16,372 of them in the last year in LA and Southern California. But with this tunnel “it moves uniformly with the ground”, and, the majority of damage from Earthquakes is caused by falling debris which obviously won’t affect a tunnel (Boring Company 2020). “It’s not rocket science” - Elon Musk So if it’s not rocket science what else is there to be concerned about? Well actually, not a lot, other than an earthquake which we’ve established won’t do any damage, so fire? water? gas? Well, in the video below you can see a test run of the tunnel with Elon Musk and Gayle King of CBS News you can see him squash these concerns straight away (CBS 2018). References Used:
